It's true there is a little more distance between the last pins and the corners than between the pins along the sides, but when you get close to the corners the two pins coming from right angles (bad description but I hope you understand what I mean) tend to quarrel inside the foam board...
Sewing up the corners with ladder stitch and pulling the very tip back in (see pic below) generally tidies up any slackness resulting from this
Just wanted to say that the photographs you take and use to explain things are just about the best tools I have ever had for learning!

I have a curved needle...always wondered what use it had. It was in my late MIL's sewing box. I wonder if she used it?
