Woohoo! Beautiful finish
As for four-sided edging (is it the edging you want?) it's in several of MH's books but she doesn't actually tell you how to turn the corner. I could send you my revised version if you like?

Well, I was sidetracked by a bit of hardanger. And if I never have to deal with that buttonhole border again, it won't be too soon... Now to start the cutting the needle weaving.

That is Totally :stars: :stars:
Love it!  Where did you find it?
BTW I tried buttonhole edging...had a Hissy Fit and din't finish. 4 Sided stitch won the battle!
I followed Mary Hickmott's instructions, normally so precise, and still I fell out of love with it!

I don't mind regular buttonhole edging -- although it's a bit tedious. But this one imitates a swag (look at the side edges and you'll see what I mean)... and it's very easy to miss count... I took one length of thread back so many times, I abandoned it for a new one! :anotherfrog:

It's from Inspirations issue 109. One of the few things I thought I could actually do! (And had the materials to hand.)

Regular buttonhole border can be quite relaxing but this must have taken a lot of concentration! Looking forward to seeing the laciness appear.

Thanks, all!

@Mabel. The way TJ Frog suggests starting is with a simple overhand knot -- the one you use to start tying your shoes. Then you do the blanket stitch over the 1-2cm tail and away you go. You do need a significant amount of thread/yarn to do a button, though. Metre-age! :king:

This hardanger piece is for beginners and to be found in Inspirations Magazine, issue 109. If I was truly a beginner, I'm not sure I would have been able to do this according to the instructions (start at the outside with the buttonhole edging... good grief, no). I sensibly started in the middle! I enjoyed the lattice stitches, even though you can't really see the tie in the middle. It's not the neatest piece of work I've ever done (the edge is particularly sloppy), but I've now done enough wrapped bars to last a lifetime.

That's a beginners piece  ? And I would quibble with your definition of "particularly sloppy" :-) - it's a very respectable finish on a lovely lacy piece (just lay off the wrapped bars for a bit...)

Which are the lattice stitches? Are they like dove's eyes?
