:applesauce: :applesauce: Beautiful start on a fantastic design! Not surprised that you don't want to put it down to work on anything else. This looks like so much stitching fun!

But the word "zmey" has one and only meaning- "snake". "Dragon" is "Drakon"([dra'ko:n] in Russian. This is an example of the fairy tale creators' not knowing biology, let alone English. :D

:D Okay, I might still call him a dragon, but in my heart I'll know he's a snake. I just happen to like dragons more than snakes, although since I have yet to meet a dragon, I have no real basis for that. :D

What does "Gorynych" translate to? Or is that the snake's name?

Dictionaries say Zmey Gorynych means a firedrake. So a snake automatically turns into a dragon while being translated. Great. I like it. :ratherbe:

I had to put him away for awhile to work on a couple other things, but he’s back. I’ve made some progress and am still loving this one.

He's none the worst for having a short break. :applesauce: Love the 'painted' toenails!

I often think that stitching the same piece can get stale and a short change of project is good!

I agree and love your progress. I also think this is the kind of design that will keep you loving it all the way to the finish.

Look who came out to play today. :-) My serpent now has three necks, to eventually support his three heads.

I’m trying out a Nurge “hoop” on this one. I have friends who use these and say they’re great and hold the fabric nice and taut. So far, I’m not convinced. I’ll give it awhile longer.

What an interesting picture. :applesauce:

Is the neck done with a variegated thread?

Beautiful update! And I'd also like the answers to both questions just asked: How is the new hoop working? I don't think I've seen or heard of that one before. And is the neck variegated thread? I love this design and can't wait for more updates!

My serpents have heads. :-)

As for the Nurge hoop….the jury is still out. I don’t think it’s holding the fabric taut any better than a regular round hoop. it’s very light, which is a plus. I struggle getting the fabric in and the hoop reassembled.

And as for the floss….I don’t know for sure what brand it is (probably DMC), but it is an over-dyed.

Three fantastic heads!
:whoop: :applesauce: :applesauce:

That hoop is plastic is it? I had a plastic round hoop for a while. Didn't hold the fabric as tightly as a wooden one so it went to the Charity shop!
