Is Royal Mail on strike?

I’ve ordered a few things that are coming from England (a Christmas tree top and some thread) and they are not moving at all. And a few tweets I’ve seen made me wonder if they are doing a slow-down or something.

WooHoo! My first parcel is at a sorting facility just outside my city and due to be delivered tomorrow. It’s a Christmas decoration, so I’m really hoping it’s on time. The second is just thread. Heading out to a store later this week and will buy more. You can never have enough black thread.

Did I mention that my family is growing this week?

She’s tiny, 5 years old, black with a little bit of white under chin. And has four legs.

This will be a first for me.

I love all cats (I bet that doesn't surprise you), but black cats are especially special. Very good luck. Rosey's "official name" is Black Rose, named after a very good historical novel by Thomas Costain and a very bad movie in 1950. I was riding home with her from the shelter and it popped into my head. Looking forward to seeing photos of your new family member.

A perfect example is Rosey, right now, on the back of the couch, giving me the "I haven't had my morning treat yet look which is Level 3 (out of 5) getting ready to move to Level 4 meow which is right below Level 5 indignant yowl. Followed by my caving and then being rewarded by sweet looks, purrs and permission to cuddle. Cats truly understand (and maybe invented?) how to use behavior modification principles.

I picked up a few toys and treats. Hopefully she’s a cuddler.

My son called yesterday and said his wife had told him he was supposed to bring me a cat. I said, and you’re calling to find out if she’s pranking you? He laughed and said “kind of”.

Last night DS texted that he was notified he has to be in early to go to court, so he won’t have time to pick her up and drop her off. He was supposed to work afternoon shift which would give him lots of time.

This may be a blessing in disguise though. We are expecting a big storm tonight. He might be home before it starts, rather than highway driving through a blinding storm in the middle of the night.

Just gives you more time to plan for the new furbaby. And definitely don't want DS in a blinding snowstorm. If its the one I've been hearing about whiteout conditions are expected and no one should be caught in that. Stay warm and dry. Midnight will eventually come. It always does. (Bad pun I know, but I couldn't resist.

Oh, that's so exciting. I can't wait to see your new owner...I mean cat.

Well, it’s been an experience, just getting her here…but we managed. When she saw her carrier she took off and hid in the ceiling. Took her owners a bit to get her out.


So, here she is, watching me set up her food and litter.



I opened the cage, but she wouldn’t budge. She does let me pet her though.



I left the room for two minutes. Came back and she was squished into a corner of the bedroom. I carried her to her litter box…just making sure she knows where it is. She ran back to her corner.

I stayed for a while, reading. She watched me. Eventually DH & I went out for a walk, and this is where she was when I got back.

It took a little over 24 hours, but last night she finally settled with me. She’s trying to get under my leg in these.

I tried to give her Temptations…but she wasn’t tempted. These are actually her regular dry food. She ignored them, but I kept putting them close and once she ate the two she wanted more.
