Hi Mabel,

I would stitch them to the fabric covering the inner ring, or if you have a drill, you could drill a very small hole in the hoop and thread the metallic thread through the hole from the back and pierce the fabric and thread through and the do the opposite on the other side using a knot to anchor the thread on the inside of the hoop.

Or when you are still assembling you could add a hanging loop either in metallic or ribbon to the inside of the hoop, you could attach this one with a ting blob of superglue (I'm with you about keeping glue away from stitching in most circumstances, if you are careful here though I think it would be fine) or you could anchor the hanging loop with a knot at the end, then pull through. Then finish with the backing the way you explained in FoF. Before it would attach to a flat surface it would dangle at an angle ( ) but would lie flat against a wall.

Hope this helps.

Going by how many of the outer hoops snapped when simply trying to take them off the inner hoops I don't think drilling holes in this inner hoop (which was the method that suggested itself to me when you described it) would work....
Trying to visualise the other methods you describe :thinks: Sewing them to the fabric itself would have to be done before gluing it to the ring, and that would take quite careful planning to make sure they were still in the right position when the fabric is glued on (to get it taut you have to pull it this way and that while the glue is still malleable) so the one that would work best is probably attaching them with superglue to the inside before adding the backing. I'm working on some little trees at the moment, one of those might look nice stretched on a hoop so I could try the hanging loops then, thanks!

I don't know if any of you are familiar with the artwork of Hannah Dunnett, but I really like her stuff - I have one of her prints in my craft room, and we tend to have her A3 calendar for the kitchen (as long as the format is landscape, it doesn't work for us otherwise).

Anyway, on the June page were some small trees which I thought would make rather fun little embroidery projects, so i messaged her to say could I stitch them and would it be all right to post pictures of the project (I emphasised that this was definitely not about making kits or workshops) and she said what a lovely idea, yes do and send her a picture. Well, I won't bother her with WIP pic :-) but I thought you might like to see them!

The blue arrow points to where I forgot to transfer a swirly shape. The colours are more or less like hers, except the autumnal tree which I've chosen completely different colours for (hers was in shades of a sort of pinky burgundy). I'm going to use different threads, so this first one is done in silk, and the wool is for the autumnal tree.

Whilst I am not familiar with Hannah Dunnett's work, I can see how they would appeal. How kind of her to agree to you using the images, those little trees are so cute.

I really like the colours you have chosen.

You have made a lovely start on the tree.

Me, too. Although more often than not, artists are happy if they are consulted and you aren’t trying to make money off their ideas.

I'm so glad she agreed because I love seeing all your progress pics and finishes. I bet she'll be blown away when she sees your final product.

:applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: This is so lovely! I know it must also be so much fun to stitch. Once the artist sees these, she may want you to turn them into charts so others can share both of yours' (I know there is a grammatically correct way to say this, but I don't think I said it right?) creativity and talents. Looking forward to more of this project!

I like that :applesauce:

Why do I get the feeling it needs a blackbird flying down to sit in it. I have a good crop of blackbirds and pigeons on my apple tree at the moment not sure how many apples they will leave me.

Wow! Love the way the rock is textured with different forms of (?)chipping. But for my money, it's the shell what steals the show. :applesauce: :applesauce:

A long haul, but worth the wait, I hope. Presume it also means you're feeling better, too. :bandaid:
