Meet my new family member

Post by karen4bells »

I do have some happy news--after being without a pet in the household for a couple of years, I made the decision to actively look for a new bird. I had owned birds for roughly thirty years, until the most recent one passed away a couple of years ago. By that time, hubby was starting his treatments for Melanoma and it just wasn't a great time to add a new pet to the mix. After much research and studying up on the many smaller pet birds I narrowed it down to a small conure or a quaker parakeet. Finally found one that was pretty affordable and took the plunge. Son and I brought it home Nov. 17th and well it has settled in quite nicely. I still have to have it DNA tested to determine if it is male or female, but for now we both assume it's a male. It's a Black Capped Conure about 8 months old now and temporarily named Birda

Birda is quite a character, and can be a bit nippy at times, and vocal, but it is definitely a fun little creature!! Much different from the parakeets and cockatiels that I have had in the past!! Love the coloration on it, rather reminds my of the ruby throated hummingbirds, just a bit larger than they are. This little guy is full of energy and quite the acrobat @rotfl: @rotfl: @rotfl:

What a beautiful bird and just a little bit larger than a hummingbird? I agree he is very lucky to have you as his new mom. or her new mom? I am looking forward to hearing stories and seeing more photos (since it didn't take too long to remember how to use photo image) about him (her?).

This little bird is roughly the size of a cockatiel, but has a shorter tail---especially short on Birda, as it seems to constantly be breaking off the feathers :? No wonder with all of the acrobatics it performs :P Highly entertaining and quite we'll behaved---most of the time
