fccs’s Dandelion Fairy 2nd place county fair 2022

Post by fccs »

This is Enchanted: Dandelion Fairy, Bothy Threads, started 3/16/2022. The floss for the dandelions is antique black/gold metallic and is a delight to use. Her wings were supposed to be with the same floss as her body but I decided to use DMC Etoile instead. You can see the sparkle if you look closely (but not necessarily in the photo).

The fabric is very much a deliberate part of the design, too. Very nice! :applesauce:

Beautifully stitched, lovely design.

Very well done, black can often be thinner than other colours and therefore not give as good a coverage, but this is so beautifully stitched hardly any of the printed fabric shows, a real skill there.
Changing the thread for Etoile was a good choice too.

The fabric is very nice and obviously designed specifically for this cute little fairy and her dandelions. The fairy is stitched with three strands of floss which helps with coverage. I’m not crazy about using three strands, but in this case I can definitely see its value. I’m hoping to finish up the other two dandelions today (one more was finished after I took the picture) while I watch some Formula 1 and maybe a couple movies.

:applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: I love this one. I think the fact that the fabric itself is part of the design makes it unique in its own way and I love the threads you are using. Black thread is so hard to get good coverage with that your using 3 strands makes a lot of sense. Especially if the fabric count is anything less than 25 (at least I have found that). Can't wait to see your next update.

I finished the dandelions but forgot to take a picture before I realigned the QSnap and I'm too lazy to do it now. This is what she looked like when I put her away last night.

What a lovely design and it works so well with the fabric. How are you finding the metallic thread to work with?

The metallic thread is amazing! I’m actually going to email Bothy to see if they sell it on its own, and also to find out if ihere are options other than the antique gold/black. I love the effect of this metallic and there is absolutely no fraying. I think Bothy uses mostly Madeira (sp?) floss but I have no clue what this one is.

Edit: I think it might be this: https://www.embroidery.com/product?productID=69939

Ah, I think I've used Madeira 40 - yes, if that's it then there will be plenty of other colours.

That’s good to know because I can see where it would be fun to use in many different designs.
