fccs's Know Your Wine 16 Aug 2023 finished

Post by fccs »

I'm doing this for friends who asked for a cross stitch for a new vacation home in Washington. (I've done several for them, both for their main house and two other vacation homes.) It's a Bothy Threads kit, which means it'll be fun. I swapped out the white 14 count Aida for a lavender-y 16 count Aida. (Yes, the picture looks like the fabric is dirty grey, but it is actually a really pretty color. I'll try to get a better photo to show the color in my next update.)

Image

I took it to Virginia with me to start it, and while I didn't get many stitches in, at least it's been started. :-) This is the center motif.

Great start. Sort of reminds me of the egg cup stitching I finished for someone who was on the New Stitches forum years ago.

Great start.

I love these pun-y Bothy charts and kits, I've done the Teapots one and the Cake one, and they always raise a smile. :D

The Lamb-brusco made me chuckle.

I have finished two motifs. Yay me…maybe I’ll finish this in time for it to be a Christmas gift. :-) I’m really enjoying the stitching process, super fun. And the backstitching isn’t bad, as long as I continue to do it as I go.

I’ll try to get a better picture in my next update. This one makes the fabric look grey rather than it’s light lavender-y color.

They know I'm stitching something for their Washington house, but they don't know what. They are wine drinkers and this will be perfect. I told them they can't buy a house in Pennsylvania until I get their Washington house gift done...we'll see how that plays out.

I also told them to make sure their daughters know I need a year's notice before they marry so I can get stockings done for the husbands. No ring on the finger, no stocking is my rule. :-)

All this talk ( stitching ) of wine reminds me of of the first Christmas I had to attend with my ex-parents-in-law.

We sat down for Christmas dinner and I noticed there was no wine or other drinking glasses on the table. Engaging my best tact and diplomacy  I asked "Did you forget to put the wine glasses out? Can I help by getting them? "To which I got a shocked response " Pardon, No one drinks wine with their meals" . "Oh" , says I, "so why do Restaurants sell wine, if it is not to go with the meals they sell? " :thinks:

Reluctantly they let me have my glass of wine to go with my Christmas dinner. My ex-brother-in-law's girl friend looked rather relieved as she generously offered to join me so I did not feel out of place

Their tradition was to stay sober during their meal then get bottles of spirits out after dinner, drain them, then sleep it off for the rest of the day
