Thank you Carole,

I have decided I cannot continue doing this in my dining room so have been busy preparing to move it to my Library (3rd Bedroom  ). I have hardly used the room since retiring 5 years ago and this has taken over the dining room  Knowing me I will get the Peacock Tapestry out and put it in its place on the dining room table.

It can't happen for a week as I will need another table magnifier

Dining room tables make great stitching areas. That's where I stitch. But mine isn't nearly as complicated (not the right word but I can't think of how else to describe your set up) with an iPad, a hoop. a 3 drawer rolling storage cabinet next to me and a kitchen hutch behind me. (the large bottom cabinet stores my extra threads and assorted other supplies).

I have moved the HAED Seasons into my Library alongside my house Lathe:

Image

The chair will be more comfortable. And I can mount the chart and the threads on a white board between my House Mill and the 3D printer

Image

They will need to be covered if I feel the need to make swarf with either of these house toys

While I waited for the (late) delivery of the magnifier I managed to do a bit more of the stitching:

Finally a bit of colour. It has felt like a lot of greys so far

You are totally amazing. I love your setup. Workshop tools and cross stitch supplies all in the same place. Not found together in many homes, I'm sure! You are making great progress on this piece. It looks beautiful already.

The machines are what I term "Girlie" tools: They were both made in Switzerland for use in the jewellery trade (machining gold jewellery) and they are a joy to use

I have still to try stitching in the Library in the meantime I have upgraded the lighting

Yesterday afternoon I started doing a bit of stitching on this piece in the library and not long after starting realised it was a bit low. No problem the table stand I had made already had extra side holes to allow me to raise the work:

Image

However this put my old magnifier too close to the fabric to get my hands underneath to work  Out to the workshop and turn up a 3" spacer for the magnifier (the metal bit seen above) and we are all go again. I also found a rather nice hand turned wooden vase that I can use for my short ends of thread trimmings (cut to < 20mm  ) that can go for the birdies nests next year. The USB cable seen at the bottom comes from the table lamp and I am using it to keep my android tablet charged which is displaying the current section of the chart I am working on.

Thank you Ladies. One last (hopefully last  ) modification: I have been taking my home made laying tool from work piece to workpiece. Finally at the Fayre this Saturday I managed to pick up a few more silver/nickel teaspoons for a vast sum (50p for the lot  ) and have modified a couple to provide two more laying tools:

the question is to you have more fun creating the accessories and the set ups for your stitching or the stitching itself? Or equal?

My other hobby is model engineering so I enjoy both making tools and making things. Cross stitch is an inside making things, sometimes I am in the mood for an outside in the workshop making things and other times for a bit of gardening which is also creative activity :D .

I have to say I’m in awe of your resourcefulness and ability to see what needs to be made or modified, and then do it.
