American Football
(Quite what the use of Pom-poms is in American Football, I have no idea. However, they seem to feature in every event that includes American Football I've seen on the TV.)

Runner
(Richard, I can’t figure out why pro football needs cheerleaders - scantily clad young women for a primarily male audience. Oh wait, never mind.)

Marathon
(Debby, the UK more violent [possibly -
https://www.therugbypaper.co.uk/rugby-p ... dangerous/], un-armoured, version of 'American Football' is 'Rugby', and both pom-poms and cheerleaders are noticeable by their total absence. TBH I can never remember seeing any even in the un-reformed 1970's. I do find it strange that they feature in the US, a country which tends to lead the UK by some margin in social change.)

Richard

Thermopylae
If you don't have cheerleaders, who is the high school quarterback going to marry?

Salamis
(where the Greeks won against Xerxes 1 of Persia after the defeat of Thermopylae)
(Serinde asked

Going to be a bit catty here for a laugh:
Their reflection in the mirror.)

Mandolin
(For some reason I always associate them with Greece, even though it'd not an exclusively Greek instrument.)

(Friends have told me of the finger slicing danger of mandolins. I've never used one.)

Matfer
(Most Mandolines come with a vegetable/item pusher: My Matfer 44595 didn't it was a separate purchase as were the various blade sets. It is a joy to use
if treated with the respect it deserves)
