Serinde's Christmas experiment

Post by Serinde »

I came across this blackwork design when flipping through some old magazines, as you do. Wasn't sure it would work, but I'm quite pleased so far. Sorry it's so big, but at least you can see the blackwork figures.

This is done on royal blue 14ct Aida with Anchor 1360 multicolour thread. The outline is Kreinik 002V very fine braid.

Oh, really good! Well done! I love variegated 'black'work. Will you make it into an ornament or a card?

I plan to make a card, I have 'gothic window' shaped ones in my stash. Gold coloured, I think.

That's so pretty! The colour changing thread is really effective and gives it a wonderfully personal feel.

Oh that's nice!! :applesauce: :applesauce: I love using those variegated threads.

What's it like working blackwork on Aida? I've tried on evenweave and haven't pursued it as I kept getting lost! and miscounting.

Great! I shall have a go then! :D
I've got a little blackwork owl pattern and I've not done it as I never thought of of using Aida!

Wendy aida does work quite wel with the blackwork. The Dragon I did for my son (pic in gallery) was done on 14 count and it looks great. I was quite worried at first but as I went along it really turned out nice. I am such a chicken. evenweave scares the daylights out of me so I am always converting to aida.

I've done blackwork on both aida and evenweave, and it seems to "lie" neater on aida, probably because the fabric is less likely to distort; also it's easier to count :-)
