PM's which seem to be sales pitches
Today I received a pm which seemed to be to be just a pitch about a framing service from a new member. This strikes me as being next of kin to spam. Does anyone else object to this sort of thing or is it just me?
Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
not seen it but i would object that isn't the point of pm!
Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
They do look like they are just trying to sell, no proper posts at all!!!!!
I wonder how many members they have targeted

*Feels left out*
I didn't get one!!
Think I would be inclined to pass it onto Alex. There is a place on the forum for advertising and if I remember correctly it was mentioned to them that they could approach Alex about it.

This was reported to Alex and I am sure by now it has been dealt with. If ANYONE gets any more of this type of pm PLEASE immediately pass it to Alex so he can stop this before it get to be a problem.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
Thank you all for the advice. Rose, I did think about reporting it but thought I might be over-reacting and that's why I asked what others thought.
Also, I'm fairly local to their area which may be why I was targeted. Ah, well, I'll know better next time - if there is a next time.
And I also know what framer I WON'T be using.............

Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
If you'd actually put a message out saying "if anyone can frame my latest piece please contact me" then I'd consider this ridiculous spam.
Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
Yes, please do report anything like this to either me or Alex, as Rose has said. This kind of spam/advertising is hard for us to track, unless we hear about it from yourselves.
Threadbear is quite right, if people want to advertise their services on the forum they can do, and in doing so can help to support the forum.
Thanks everyone.
Chris @ Zookx.

I got this message too and reported it to Alex and Rose. They had already been warned about the forum rules and have now been banned. I live locally enough that I could have used them, but their actions mean that I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now! If they can't respect our forum's very few rules, I wouldn't trust them with my precious projects.

Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
When they first posted their first (and only?) 2 posts were clearly advertising so I suggested they contact Alex to do their advertising in a more appropriate place -- I hadn't realised they then went on to direct marketing!

Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
I havn't received a pm but I seem to remember there was someone (but can't remember who ) asking if anyone knew of a framer who laced the work within a 50 mile radius of their home and if I remember rightly it was sort of this part of the country. I remember them saying that their framer called Esther had moved to Hong Kong could it be as a result of that.
I know it might not have been the correct way to go about it but just a thought

Yes I saw that one! I reported some one recently who was 'advertising' her Quaker sampler for sale! That was removed pretty promptly!
I saw the Barry & Elaine Leech people in the 'members on line' box yesterday, but haven't received any p/m's that look dodgy.
Thank goodness for Alex & Chris keeping this site up to date.

I saw that one too -- didn't report her but replied to her post saying perhaps the best place for something like that was in the Trade & Sell sectionwendywombat wrote:I reported some one recently who was 'advertising' her Quaker sampler for sale!
I know someone was asking for a framer, and if a member happens to be a framer I could understand them sending a pm to that person saying they might be able to help, but this was blatant advertising aimed at the whole forum, not just the person who had asked.
Thanks boys for protecting us so well!!

Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
It is not what they are offering but the way that they have gone about doing it. We have very few rules on the website and we ask that new members follow them. When they are asked not to use us as a free advertisement then it should be respected.
Then to go and choose individuals to target to drum up business is a bit annoying when everyone is here to share not to profit. That is what is causing the concern and problem.
They are more then welcome to come to the administators and ask to have an ad placed on the forum. This could then help members but this is like telemarketing. Call people that have not asked for a service is an intrution.

Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
Beautifully put, Rose!
Re: PM's which seem to be sales pitches
I really didn't think I'd say this, and with absolute respect to Rose's comments above and the rules of this forum, I rather agree with Linda's post.
I HAVE looked at their website, and their mounting and framing is really rather impressive.
I think they perhaps made an error of judgement about the pm-ing. We've all made those. But credit where it's due - their work does seem to be good.
Just a thought.
