Do I need a backing for a baby bib?

Post by doylestownmama »

I am almost done with a bib, and was wondering if I needed some sort of backing for it. I'm not concerned with looks, but was wondering if the thread might become unravelled during washing?

Hmm not sure to be honest, but how about adding some iron-on interfacing to the back? It would strengthen the fabric too.

A backing sound like a good idea.
My friends g child sucked the threads out of his x stitched bib and had them in his mouth! His mum saw a bit of red at the corner of his mouth and thought he was bleeding. She removed a 1 inch thread.
Sheila feels really guilty now for stitching the bib and so how we try and reasure her that it wasnt her fault she still keeps harping on about how he could have choked.
Im not trying to scare you but its better to be safe than sorry. He was only 4 months old at the time and now at 1yr he still sucks everything

I think I would possibly do what Susan has suggested and iron on inter facing :thinks:
