Recommendation please...?

Post by kell »

I'm well ahead of time, but my Mam always asks early what I'd like for my birthday and this year I thought I'd ask for a dictionary of stitches. Now, I'm a total novice at anything other than basic cross stitch, so I was wondering if you guys could recommend a stitch dictionary that would be good for a beginner, with clear illustrations and descriptions of how to do the various stitches.

I'm completely in the dark about which one I should ask for.

Thanks in advance, guys!

I like Jane Greenoff's The Cross Stitcher's Bible. Mine is a paperback and I have had it two or three years.
I think she has a revised edition now but I haven't seen it in the flesh. You can see it here:

I have the same book. It has loads of info and projects and quite a bit of speciality stich work.
There is also a DVD by her that I found whilst looking around the other day. I'll report back when I have watched it.

I have this book, in Hungarian though, and I think it is very good.

Not much cross stitch, but a lot of other stitches.
