HAED??

Post by mel876 »

Okay I admit it.... I've spent about the past 5 hours or so sitting here drooling over the amazing work happening, and of course the HAED designs came to my attention... so over I go... wow, that are stunning.

I have a few questions.
a. How 'experienced' do you need to be to do a HAED design? is it more a case of having the patience to sit it out?

b. is there any way to know how many different thread colours you will need before buying the item?

c. how do you keep motivated with old projects once you find new designs taht are simply gorgeous?? :P: I just wanna start something now.

Hi, I don't think that you need to be particularly experienced as they only have full stitches - no 1/4 stitches or backstitch but you will need huge amounts of dedication for the sheer size of most of the Haed's.
I don't know if it tells you how many colours you need before buying but if you check out http://www.colray-crafts.com/" target="_blank they" target="_blank sell fully made up kits and it might give you an idea. The one I have (unstarted) has 80+ colours I think.
I always want to start new things and have several ufo's, I think you have to be strict and just not start another untill you have cleared the decks   :D
2022 is yet another year of the UFO!!

Lol, that's the very real risk of a side effect from joining this forum - many of us have become HAED addicts as a result of this group!

To try to answer your questions:

a) I have only been stitching a few months and have started a HAED QS. As Midge says, they dont need technical stitches, it's all full cross stitch (or tent stitch if you prefer). The main thing you need is patience really, which leads me onto anothr suggestion - pick a design you really love as it's likely you'll be looking at it for a looong time!

b) Some designs do let you see a page with the list of threads. If they dont, the thing to do is to email HAED direct with the design name and they'll let you know. I cant praise the HAED customer services highly enough, they're always quick to reply and so very helpful.

c) Everyone wants the answer to that! Hence why most of us have so many WIPs and UFOs!

Looking forward to seeing which design(s) you choose!

They are fabulous charts, you don't need experience because a cross stitch is a cross stitch, the web site is great, any question answered like no. of threads. just pick something you love and you will finish it, maybe try a quick stitch first? I really enjoyed doing Wolfish Friend, the detail in these charts is second to none.
Happy Stitching

I've only got two small charts so far (a storykeep and a peek-a-boo), but haven't started them yet. However, I have quite a few other charts on my wishlist already. I can see myself becoming horribly addicted to them once I make a start!

True!! I got up at 3am for a drink and was really tired but decided to do a few sts. As usual I got totally enthralled in it, looked at the clock and it was 5.45  Im tired now though but I love it and am amazed how all the meaningless colours make such perfect pictures

HAEDs are very definitely addictive :D I know I probably won't go back to stitching anything else because a) they have so many stitches that I can use tent stitch & not worry about the coverage because it's on a smaller count b) tent stitch makes it go twice as fast! c) it feels more like creating a painting or something rather than stitching, the effects of the shading they get are magical!

Looking through my charts, a lot of them have 80-90 colours - including Queen of Hearts even though it's just mainly red/purple shades, so it's a safe bet to assume around that many for a full-size HAED. Not sure about the Quick Stitches as I don't have any but I'm guessing they may be similar?
