frames wanted

Post by Joyce »

Anyone know where I can find frames for my finished projects. Some of them are unusual size and do not fit in regular frames. It is too expensive to take them to shop to have them framed. Thanks for any help

Some places have individual sides of frames in different sizes - you select the sizes you want, and put the frame together. I think Michaels has them in the US/Canada, although I haven't looked at them in much detail. Another option is to have mats cut that will make your piece into a standard size, and get a basic frame - this is much less expensive than custom framing.
Current WIP's:
Fall Lake (GK)
Crackling Silence (Mystic Stitch)
Hidden Spirits (Dimensions)

I have been known in the past to go to diy shops and buy that decorative wood moulding stuff to cut to size to use for frames. A bit of cardboard for the back and a couple of 'eyes' screwed in to hold the string, and it has worked okay. Not a perfect back maybe, but it did the job and looked good from the front. I didn't need glass but some places cut glass to the size you want.

You can also try charity shops and second hand stores for cheaper frames. I usually get the closest standard size and then try to get a mat cut to make the picture fit. When in the US, I check at Walmart, Michael's and Joann's especially if they are having sales and here in the Netherlands I go to IKEA as they have reasonably priced frames as well.

However, a couple of times I have had to bite the bullet and get something framed professionally but as it was a gift I didn't mind too much...
