A loon is a Canadian bird, it appears on the CND dollar coin.

Have you tried X-Stitch Birds? They specialise in bird patterns.

Edited:
I just checked and they don't appear to do a loon but you could contact them and ask them if they know where to find one

Crossed Wings has a really large beautiful loon pattern that has a much smaller and simpler one tucked in with that pattern. My choice of bird designs are all from Crossed Wings. Now as far as the loon goes. It also frequents the northern USA. It is a beautiful black and white bird with the most haunting cry. I lived eight years in its domain and whenever I heard its call I would get shivers. That is also where I saw the most gorgeous Norther Lights --Aurora Boreallis I have ever seen.

There's also a loon pattern at http://www.crosstitch.com/birds.shtml" target="_blank" target="_blank

This is a Canadian site, which until recently you had to join. Now instead you can purchase individual patterns, both by the site designer, Marv Schier, and by some other designers. The loon pattern is $4 but it may be a bit complex for a young stitcher.

The site is a great source of patterns in many categories. It also has a caption maker and a photo to pattern service.

The loon is the state bird of Minnesota. I have a pattern for a loon but not sure where it is. Will look for it and get back to you. Joyce

I found my loon pattern but it is about 1 inch high and about 1 1/2 inches long...pretty small and probably not what you want. Sorry
