Friends are like Fairies - Update 3rd June

Post by Angel »

So I was getting a bit fed up of the Emo donkey. The backstitch is hard and I don't like him anyway. Plus I find the actual cross stitch rather monotonous. So, it's not really my favourite project, and of course my sister has to be...well...the word that springs to mind begins with B. She's soooo spoilt! So I decided to put him aside until she has an attitude adjustment and I feel like doing something for her again.

Until then, I have another sister who I actually love more! LYNN! Ok, maybe I don't love Lynn more, I just like her better. She's far less B****chy and actually cares about me. So I bought this kit a while back, thinking that it was perfect for her. It's massively complicated so is a lovely contrast to the one for Bob.

It also sparkles. Water and wings I think...it's hard to tell...

Yeah, our sisters are pretty similar.
At the moment my housing benefit has been cancelled. We're both on £50 a week. I somehow have to scrape together £85 in rent a week, plus electricity, plus food. My sister lives with mum and pays about £20 a week...maybe as low as £10! My mum is unemployed but my sister gets all her heating, electricity and food for free in it. Now a while back, she lent me some money to buy a skirt for me to pay her back when I can afford to. Now with housing that's only an extra £65 a week.

I took some laundry down to my mums house because I don't have a washing machine and my sister starts screaming at me for having to take her now clean laundry out of the washing machine  The basic jist being if I want to use the machine I should pull all her clothes out first...Well sorry, but I don't want to touch her underwear! Well eventually my dad yells at her to shut her face and do as she's told. She comes back upstairs and starts screaming at me to go put my washing in. See I knew you didn't want to use it! As I'm putting my laptop down. WTF?

The next day mum takes me shopping and Bob asks us to fetch her some pop back (pop and junk food are all she buys to eat herself). Well mum puts it through on my shopping and Bob refuses to pay me back as she has no money and I owe her! Well yes I do owe her, but she said when I can afford to, and I can't even afford my own food! Needless to say my mum shouted at her for it and threatened to throw her out. Bob is such...another B word! I bet you anything! Anything you like! That when I go and see Lynn she'll bend over backwards to make me relaxed. She's even offered to help pay for me to visit her. No if buts or maybes. My own blood sister can't even get my parents to not take sides she is just always shouting her mouth off about nothing.

Not to mention her trying to kill me was the main reason I moved out! Literally! By the time my dad walked in I had stopped breathing, she was strangling me and I was desperately trying to call 999. I wish I didn't live within 1000 miles of her. I've always said I'd swap Bob for Lynn any day!

I thought so too...especially given that her daughter used to see them.

When Kayley was little she used to stare into the garden and when asked she'd say that she was watching the fairies. She tried to teach Lynn how to see them and at one point Lynn could actually see something, but she couldn't make it out. Still, she always believed that Kayley could see them.

Wait Bob nearly killed you and you were making a pillow for her? Was it like a pillow to hold over her face while she was sleeping type thing? Poor Emo Donkey getting in the middle, but I can understand the need to change it up a bit... I really like this design so I'm ok with change of pace!

yes, my sister trried to kill me. All because I shouted at her for throwing my clean laundry on the floor. Next thing I know she's got my by the chorded necklace my gramma bought me, throttling me while I'm randomly jabbing at the phone trying to call either dad or 999 unable to actually see, concentrate or think. The number I did dial looked something like 0799908164 which is neither, bearing in mind she was trying to drag me away from the phone, everytime she did that my claws thrashed at her skin and she loosened up enough for me to get back at the phone. I was just about to pass out when my dad came home and heard us. He came running in and dragged my sister off me. Now the necklace I was wearing was a leather chord, and I was wearing one of those thick fluffy towel dresses. She snapped the necklace and ripped the sleeves off of my dress. I fell to the floor suddenly able to breath again and began hyperventilating.

She doesn't realize how lucky she is. I should have pressed charges. At the very least I should never have spoken to her again. So I hear. Instead, I simply moved out as soon as I found somewhere I could afford.I think it was 8 weeks later. But I refused to be home alone with her again until I moved.Still, she's my baby sister isn't she? It's my job to make her happy and keep her safe, and so whenever she shapes up I make her presents, buy her stuff and even hang out with her, but then she winds up causing more trouble and I'm just not a good enough person to do something for someone WHILE they're causing the damage. Afterwards perhaps, but not during.

Thank you ^_^ It was a very difficult project to start as it just didn't make sense! 2/3 of the threads are presorted onto cards A&B and numbered from 1-12. he other 1/3 is in two knots with another shade card. Unsorted. So I look at the pattern and the threads aren't listed as A1 and such, they're listed by DMC numbers! So I have to go over all the cards. And then the instructions for the blended threads don't really make sense, apparently you stitch them normally, then stitch over them with the filament....and the couching instructions... So...I'm winging it.

I think you're doing jolly well giving your sister second and third and fourth chances!

Hope you'll enjoy the fairies in spite of the confusing instructions! If it helps, I have done blending in the way you describe -- stitch the stranded cotton first, then stitch either a whole or a half cross stitch on top of it afterwards using the blending filament. It makes the blending filament show up a bit more evenly (if you actually blend it it sometimes gets obscured by the stranded cotton because of the way the threads twist while stitching)

I must admit I am still a little bitter towards my sister. Surprisingly though, not for trying to kill me, but for breaking the necklace my gramma gave me. Gramma was still alive at this time as it was some years back. And I forgave her until gramma died.

Ahhh that makes more sense than what these instructions say...wherever I threw them...It just had pic 1 and pic two. Pic one was a normal cross stitch then in pic two there was magically another line in the stitch labled as blending filament, done after, but it ran inside the thread...It's silly. I don't usually have a problem with Janlynn, so I'm a little surprised at this kit. So I just decided to do what I like, no one will ever know if I deviate a little... and woot, I don't remember having my own smiley face!

Your description of the instructions does sound a little frustrating! Hopefully you're able to figure things out  I'm pretty confident you'll be able to!

Well I have a whole spool of sparkle thread and a whole skien of the stranded thread, so trial and error I suppose will be my friend on the special stitches. Thankfully, the regular stitching and backstitch is perfectly clear. Even if the threads aren't labled clearly :P

What a super pattern that should be gorgeous when you have finished it. I like all of the detail and colors in it.

Nice start good luck with the complicated instructions.

Isn't it gorgeous! It's all bright and cheerful, just like Lynn, with tons of detail without being overcrowded. It's just the sweetest little friendship picture.
