In memory

Post by stitchingmae »

okay. So I was thinking of cross stitching my aunt something for christmas. My mother and she were very close. I was thinking of making something "in memory" with my mom's name and dates... my mom passed away 12 years ago. but my aunt constatnly speaks of her and in fact sent out an in memory text on my mothers birthday. What do you think? Morbid or not morbid?
and if not morbid.. any ideas of a pattern??

I don't have any suggestions for a pattern, but I wanted to say that I don't believe that's morbid at all! It sounds lovely. {{{HUG}}}

I think it's a very lovely idea and I'd suggest something that your mother really liked, a favorite flower, bird, etc. What a fabulous thought for you to share with your aunt that way

A cushion perhaps? A favorite flower on one side and on the other the dates and perhaps a short poen about sisters. I'm sure you could crib one from a greetings card or maybe there are free verses on the internet.

My daughter stitched a sampler for her step-grandmother with small motifs that depicted her life. She treasured it and since her death we have too because it says so much about her as a person in a pictorial form.

Maybe this idea would work for you too.

It's certainly not morbid. It's very touching that your aunt has such special memories of your mother. Maybe the pattern could be of something that your mother was especially fond of. Maybe she collected certain things or had a favorite song that the words to could be stitched?

Not morbid at all, it sounds like a wonderful idea. I would go for something that meant a lot to her, that reminds you of her - whether that's a favourite flower or verse, or a hobby, or what career she persued, or something to reflect her religious beliefs if she held any. As it's for your aunt, and being created by you, maybe something about family - a family tree, or some kind of written celebration of the women in the maemae family?

I had an idea! Why not a photobook cover? You can stitch the cover, and inside you can have memorable family pics in honor of mother

What a lovely idea - not morbid at all. I especially like the idea of a photo album cover - you could then add photos that hold special memories too.

What a lovely idea and not at all morbid.

In fact in a recent Fox catalogue on the cover was a most glorious arrangement of peonies and delphiniums in a vase looking out onto an archway of roses. All those flowers + floral arranging are my mum to a T and I can't wait to begin it. Sadly it doesn't come into stock until sometime in April - so patience.

I hope you find something that says "my mum" which you can use as a base for a design in memory.

It sounds like a lovely idea. I'd go with what others have said already and choose something to reflect your mother. Good luck with it.

OO love the photo album cover. I could leave the photos blank though b/c my aunt LOVES to do photo shop type stuff then she could fill the book with her own pics etc of my mom...in fact in that case. since my aunt is the only one living out of her parents and total of 5 kids. I could possibly just do all of their names and dates. and have the family name in the middle???

How do you do the photoalbum cover???

Or should I just do the one for my mom...since they were the only girls...
thus why they were so close?

well mom loved daisies and we all have a lightning bug story. MOM loved them once a cousin who is like a sis was outside crying thinking of mom and how much she missed her...she said she sorta closed her eyes and was talking to mom and when she opened them she found she was surronded by lightning bugs...sorta same thing for my aunt...then once while at work I was thinking of mom and missing her..mind you i was inside a kroger during the day...i was a cashier...i turned and saw a bug and one it landed on my register...it was a lighting bug. that and white butterflies. LOL maybe we are just searching for anything. The butterfly or moth thing came b/c
the night before my mom passed away i had been to a rodeo and purchased a bracelet
they were simple a leather band...with different color beads to signify salvation one was black sin one was red blood of christ etc...the clasp was a white butterfly to signify Eternal life through salvation. Well two nights later after my mom passed...my great aunt and uncle were at the house (they had heard the ambulance call on a scanner) while someone...(parts of that night are a blur) walked out a HUGE white moth flew into the house...it landed on everyone in the room...before it allowed my uncle to catch it and release it outside...

then just the other night...the night before my moms bday..i dreamed that i was in this wooded area and all of these white butterflies were around me.....it was so peaceful sorta b/c right before i woke up i tried to catch a few and killed them. (not good)

okay anyway sorry for the tangent...blah...

so should I do the whole family or jus the sister thing??
