Wow really good. I know how long these HAED take as Vanessa is doing one but they really are worth all the effort.

Woohoo!!! Congrats on the page 1 finish - I personally think that is the hardest page to finish (in general).

Well I have tried and tried but I am just not happy with the coverage on 25 ct 1 over 1. I have all but given up on Queenie because of this :( I did take a break and started a Golden Kite design (which I can't put down right now) and I am already on page 3. This is being done on 20 ct evenweave 2 over 2 and the coverage is amazing.

So I am not sure what I am going to do. I could re-start on 20 ct 2 over 2 or try to perservere to see if I get used to it.

Anyways I just thought I would give you an update :)

Oh dear! So sorry to hear you've run into problems with this again!
I can't advise much because I did mine on 28ct with 2 strands in tent stitch, and the projects I have going on 25ct are much lighter in colour, so it's not as much of a problem... :thinks:

How does it look from across the room, like how it'll be once finished? Does the shading show or are the white bits making the colours look washed out?

I will say it takes me a while when going from one project to another in my rotation to get used to the different count/coverage again. And for a while I thought my eyes were too bad to see on 28ct anymore and was contemplating some re-starts, but that turned out to be because I was stitching a lot of white/pale grey on white so was much more difficult to see, and I'm happily back to working on 28ct again now.

It's a tricky one! :thinks: Is 28ct an option? Just thinking if you were to re-start it would use less floss than 20ct...

Oh no - sorry to hear you are not happy with the coverage - better to discover it now rather than later. Perhaps you can revisit it later to decide if you can salvage it. I am stitching my current HAED on 25 count 2 over 1 - I cannot see any fabric showing through and I have a lot of very dark blue.

In any case, I'll enjoy watching your other projects come to life.

What size needle should I be using for 25 ct fabric?

I use size 28 needles on 25ct, I've found that anything bigger pushes the threads out of the way and makes gaps show!

I'm stitching 1 over 1 on 25ct and using a 28 needle. I was not to sure about the coverage on mine at first but now I am very pleased with it. Not sure if this helps?

Hmmmm maybe I have been using the wrong size needle. I have been using a size 26 needle I think. Could this have afftected the coverage?

Sorry to hear you're not enjoying it. Maybe give it a go with a finer needle though. I really noticed the difference when I got some size 28 needles for the finer fabrics. It was a lot easier to stitch with them and I found the holes between the stitches became less obvious.

I definitely noticed my old bigger needle was making holes by pushing threads out of the way & so exposing more fabric. Not sure what size it was though, but the bigger kind, like what would be supplied in a kit with 14 count aida.

I'd certainly have a go with a smaller needle first before you decide to re-start or anything :)

So eventually I did decide to re-start on 28 ct. I have just finished page one... AGAIN!!

Only this time I am very happy with the results. Can't wait to get going on the next page. I am starting the page below page 1 next.
