That is one cute kitten. They are so adorable at that age. I used to raise abandoned litters until they were old enough to eat solid food and live out in the barn and take care of themselves. I miss doing that. June bugs are a hard shelled bug, like a beetle kind of, that flies. They are a kind a reddish/orange color and very round. Like a big lady bug without the spots. They don't hurt anything, except they like to fly into everything, especially lights. And our apartment is really dark most of the time, so when i xstitch i usually have a light on right over my head. So I get bombarded by them! My husband thinks it's a hoot to watch me squeal and jump after one flies right into my hair by my ear! :o

When my brother and I were little, our Granddad would catch a couple junebugs, tie a length of thread to a leg, and give them to us. We'd hold the thread and they would fly around in a circle like an organic u-fly-it airplane. It's probably considered cruel these days, but then it was simple fun in the hills of Virginia. Going on fourty years later, I think of Granddaddy Ballou when I see a junebug.

It does make me feel sorry for the June bug, but it's lovely to have something that gives you happy memories of your grandfather! (Who must have had very nimble fingers indeed to be able to tie a piece of string to a june bug's leg -- how big are those bugs???)

Dependng on the season, they get as big as the first joint of your pinky finger. Bad year, a 10YO kid's finger; average year, a woman's finger; good year, a man's. Not very specific, but you get the idea.

Hi Lisa! I'm 31 from Colorado. I lived in Ft. Worth for a while before moving to the Denver area. Loved it, but too hot! :) Welcome!
