Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
Yes and I really like them. I don't like the kinks bobbin cards leave and I can't be bothered unwinding and rewinding skeins onto bobbins so stitch bows are great for me. I also love being able to see my colours in all their glory nicely protected in plastic.
To overcome the id falling off problem I feed the smaller label off the skein over the bigger one and then feed both onto the stitch bow. I've not lost one since doing that. I also have some white dots I bought thinking I would stick the details onto the bow ... haven't needed them yet.

Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
I finally got to play around with my SB system over the weekend. I quickly learned why everyone complains about the tags falling off. I was wondering if anyone has tried using the small white pre-printed stickers DMC sells? I was debating trying this option. The stickers are pretty cheap, so I figured it would be worth a try.
Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
The numbered stickers work; but, once inside the binder inserts, the floss can shift and obscure the tiny number.

Have you considered writing with a fine tip permanent maker?
I am a little OCD, on my bobbins I have the number written under the sticker from DMC in case the sticker falls off...
I know I know...I'm bad.

LOL. Let's see...we have the skein tag, the number written in marker under the number sticker. A double redundant system for stitchbows. Obsessive, not us.

Okay, after reading this post I think I will try to take a look at Stitchbow when I get the chance. Honestly, I don't like to wind the bobbins too much because I can't make it tidy.
Since I always make sure that the floss will remain like new after I cut around 2,5 rounds of floss and put the label back in (so it's just like never touched before), I think the Stitchbow will be great for these ones. While for those who have become shorter pieces, I think those bobbins sound nice for them.

I thought about using permanent marker, but I'm concerned it might smudge with all the plastic/moisture. The plastic already seems to have a tendency to really stick to itself.

I use the DMC sticker tag system, and the ones I still have the slips for I put over it.. but they do fall off so I won't ever rely to tell me the color. I have written where each number belongs on the plastic inserts.. I'm glad that seems to be the norm and not obsessive

I really like the stitchbows. I just use the number off the skein but I fold the top 'label' off the skein in two (the DMC part) and shove it in underneath the number of the skein stopping the number from sliding during use (and if I ever mix up my Anchor and DMC threads I just have to remove the number to find out which it is...)

This picture of my dragon stitching awhile back gives a good view of my stitch bag and the way I keep my stitchbows, if that helps give you an idea of the stitch bow system

I love them, before I got the ringbinders and bows my threads were all over the place. I now have a thin ringbinder and spare pockets so when I do a design I can just select all the ones I want and keep them in order.

Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
Well I'm convinced. I've been dithering over them for a while, trying to decide whether to go for them or not. I really didn't want to get bobbins as I hate having folds in my threads.
I had to do something to upgrade from my current system which consists of chucking the skeins into a box. Sorry, I know some may find this traumatic
I do myself to be honest, but I've just ordered myself some stitchbows so I will put that right asap.

If you aren't nice to your floss you can send it my way I'll take really good care of it...just send it to aunt maemae's LOL.
Seriously thought I looked and looked and had fallen in love with the stitchbow system but went with the bobbins. I really like them but my favorite would have to be the floss away baggies!! Maybe one day!!

Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
I've decided to give stitchbows a go. I've always used bobbins, but I find winding them so tedious! A friend gave me a HAED chart for my birthday with 49 colours in it so I've ordered 50 bows and storage for them and I'll see how I get on with them
I did try them once before and didn't get on with them but this thread has given me renewed hope. I was only using them for metallics last time, and they're badly behaved at the best of times!

If you decide to change to stitchbow. Don't throw away the bobbin system. I would be glad to give it a good home LOL It will be loved and cherished.

Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
I should have said I have found that it is difficult to use stitchbows for satin, marlitt (so soft, slippery threads) and stiff metallic threads (that twang undone) - I use plastic bobbins that enclose (semco used to make them) for those.

Re: Does anyone use the Stitchbow system?
Mae, I don't think I'll be switching all my threads over to stitchbows (I've got about...800 or so, mixture of Anchor and DMC) but if I really get on with them that well I'll keep you in mind
