Adding extra fabric?

Post by Flying_V_Goddess »

I've been looking at my first chart in my Zelda series. The chart is 22X10, but the stiched area is more like 21x9. So that leaves me about an inch of fabric around the entire thing.

The cross stitch books tell me if I plan on framing a project that I need to add extra fabric around the border so I can mount and frame it. I'm afraid to because I plan on buying two yards of Aida and all my pieces at their current size just barely fit. On the other hand I might want to frame these.

Shoud I add extra fabric? How much?

I find that having an extra 2" or 3" on all sides is a good bet. Anything under 2" is extremely difficult to frame. 1.5" is an okay allowance if you plan to convert your needlework into a cushion. Personally, I favour a 2.5" allowance on all sides for my projects. Hope this helped. :rose:

Every where i have read says 2-3 inches depending on how thick of a matte you want to go in the frame.

I have always worked on the 2.5 to 3 inch border around all projects as they are all framed. Sadly Dimensions is getting very skimpy with their fabric, so for those kits I buy fabric large enough to include the border. The fabric in the kit can then be used for smaller projects.
