Wow, those are some beautiful examples. But I have stitched 2 pieces, so I just meant fabric that goes on the back of my stitching, and it's never actually seen. I had read in the links Kell posted that helps keep stuffing from poking through the holes in the aida/evenweave, etc. The link mentioned sewing through the fabric when you do the backstitch hem, but I was considering using the iron-on stuff instead. I wondered if anyone had used that and had good or bad experiences.

I never used any of fabric for backing unless it was a hardanger-type thing with lfrges cuts-through

That's okay, your examples were lovely, that gives me ideas for later if I can get this one finished.

And since so many of you don't use backing, perhaps I'll save some $ and try without!

I finished!! I'm very excited about it! The sewing was a bit tricky as I made a 3.5 inch one, and probably I should have started a bit bigger, but I did it! Hooray for this forum and learning about biscornus!
