Thanks, everyone. The number sticks have been mailed but not received yet, so hope my friend likes them.
Meanwhile, here's a bookmark I just finished from a new book I bought last week. I backed it with felt - haven't tried that before but it seems to work well. Then used pinking shears on the ends.

Just heard from my friend - she received the number sticks and is thrilled. Loves the bright colours and will start using them with her grand-daughter today. Yea!! 
I told her I didn't think I was up to doing an entire stick alphabet (
) but there's always the chance of a sampler. . . . !
