Coming from below.

Post by MawmawT »

I am 81 and used to x-stitch many years ago. Has anyone invented a way to come up from the bottom and hit the hole? I guess maybe I need to realize I am not 30 years old anymore.

nah...i just poke around til i find it. until i used blunt needles i'd always have blood drops on my fabric.

i'm not 30yrs old anymore either, and my hands don't work as well, and my eyes, too. but the passion is still there. projects just take a little longer, that's all.

welcome, my dear. and have fun ... :)

I think you said it all pattiebelle. and since all my needles aren't blunt i do get poked periodically.

I agree with the other girls, tapestry needles (which are blunt) are MUCH easier to sew with on aida.

But other then using my index finger nail of my other hand to point at the hole and lift the fabric a little where I want to come up to help me find it.

I have to agree... tapestry needles are the best.

The other day I snapped my blunt tapestry needle in half (got a little crazy and caught it between the hoop when I was setting it up) and used a sharp needle for a bit. It caught on everything it touched on the back of the piece and made me nuts. I went out and got a new set of tapestry needles (there seems to be one or two in every multi-pack of needles, too) and it's great. Just push it around, it slides so easily and pops right into the hole.

Yep! I poke around to find the hole as well. Aida is the easier to work with in that regard. The holes are more defined.
The point is to relax and enjoy yourself. :)

Thank you ladies. The hint about the blunt tapestry needle has helped a great deal. I dug my old one out. and I am doing much better. Rita

I am 30 and I struggle with this sometimes! So glad I don't use sharp needles often, I always end up bleeding when I do...
