organizng tips for loose charts
other then a couple of books, most of my pattern/chart stash is loose leaf printed out pattern. i would like to organize them some how, in terms of storage and findability(if that is even a word).the only one i have heard so far is good ole' filing cabinet..is there other options of chart organization that any of you fellow stitcher's do.

Re: organizng tips for loose charts
I have a few loose charts such as you describe. I'm keeping one in a spring binder and another in a polypocket. Seems to work.

I keep mine in binders in plastic sleeves. Outside of the binder has a list of designers on the spine for easy reference.

I'm one that keeps them in a good ol' filing cabinet. Seperated by themes- alphabets, little designs- cards and bookmarks, holiday, already stitched, etc
Re: organizng tips for loose charts
Themes also seems to work best for me. And a file cabinet.MaggieM1750 wrote:I'm one that keeps them in a good ol' filing cabinet. Seperated by themes- alphabets, little designs- cards and bookmarks, holiday, already stitched, etc

I don't have enough of them to need a filing cabinet so I keep them in two binders with plastic sleeves, so it's easy to look and search for something and it keeps them protected.

Some I keep in a binder in plastic sleeves, some in a "harmonica" file with lots of pockets inside where the are filed under headings like Animals, Flowers, Alphabets and so on.

I laminate mine and keep them in notebooks according to theme.

Re: organizng tips for loose charts
I place mine in the plastic sleeves and then in binders. On the outside are themes. Anything more then that and it takes the fun out of looking through all my patterns when I need a certain theme for a new project.

If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
Re: organizng tips for loose charts
Oh I love the idea of laminating them - then you can use dry erase markers to mark your chart and just wipe them away when your done - ahh happy filing
Right now mine are all just stacked and jumbled and tucked away in various places, books, magazines, etc. may have to work on that one of these days when we are more permanently settled

I don't either but I keep all my stitch items in that drawer- extra fabric, projects I am kitting up, felt for backing bookmarks and such, Q snap pieces.. its all in that file drawer. My patterns take up very little space. One hanging file for the latest Nordic Needle catalog, one hanging file with the various folders for chartsLadyS wrote:I don't have enough of them to need a filing cabinet so I keep them in two binders with plastic sleeves, so it's easy to look and search for something and it keeps them protected.
I forgot to say earlier that I have scanned most of my charts. So I have way more that have been saved on a USB drive than I have a physical print out of. I save all the freebie patterns I've found, and scanned in the physical charts I am working on, onto that flash drive, backed up to an external hard drive.
Re: organizng tips for loose charts
Well, I really can't be much help here. Mine just seem to be where ever. I think I started a system, but I really haven't kept it up. I was looking through it recently and was surprised how many small charts and such were buried there. Oh well, maybe someday.

I do the exact same thing, they're organized by theme and stored in plastic sleeves inside binders. I do the same for my fabric - that's organized by count, then type, then color.Rose wrote:I place mine in the plastic sleeves and then in binders. On the outside are themes. Re: organizng tips for loose charts
I have loads of charts from different companies. I keep them bulldog-clipped in the order I want to stitch them, in cardboard folders according to the company I got them from, so I have a HAED file, a Classic Cross Stitch file, etc. I write the name of the company on the front of the file and then all I have to do is rifle through the file to find the pattern I want, which is usually at the front because they're in the order I want to stitch them.

Sew many patterns, sew little time!
