Can someone explain
I keep hearing stitchers refer to something called Q snaps could someone please explain what they are.I have always used hoops for my stitching.
If you see someone without a smile give them one of yours.
Re: Can someone explain
They're frames which do the same job as a hoop, i.e. they hold the fabric firm. I keep meaning to try them myself, but haven't done it yet! I know that Rose uses them, so I'm sure she'll be able to tell you more when she arrives. In the meantime, here's a link to the main site, which is in USA. However, we can get them online from sites in the UK, so I'm sure it will be the same in Australia.

Well basically Gen has done a very good job of explaining and she has given you a link to the site. It is just a very good alternative to the hoops they are easier to attach your fabric to and they don't leave the creases that a hoop sometimes does. I really like yhem alot.

I love my qsnaps too! I find them really easy to use. I picked mine up from the Stitches and Craft show when its on in brissie from the Stitchabout stand but there were a couple of other stands there that also had time. I know that stitchabout have a online store but I find it rather hard to use.
A qsnap is a series of plastic pipes and snap together to form a square, which you then lay your fabric over and secure with plastic clamps. I find it really easy to tension with, and when you are doing those stitches right near the frame (that you want to do but don't want to move the fabric) it is really easy just to rotate the clamps and loosen off the tension abit.

This will give you an idea of what they look like: http://www.123stitch.com/QSnapFrames.html" target="_blank
I like the big q-snap 17x17 that I'm using. It's also possible to use them in conjunction with floor stands (although not my ancient one). Keeps the fabric taut, and you can still slip it into a pillowcase when you aren't working on that particular project.

Re: Can someone explain
They can be a bit difficult at first to get used to. I bought mine and they sat for over a year after my first attempt but once I got the hang of it I love them. I find them great for the fabric that is especially high in count and/or the holes are small (as from hand dying). They are also very light weight so was you get to bigger sizes that don't weigh you done. Some of the floorstand people have also made adaptors for them so they can be used on floorstands.
