UFO is now WIP of Dancing Tulips.....FINISHED!!!!

This has been lurking at the bottom of my UFO box for longer than I care to think!!!
SO! Rather than start another project this one came out.

Once out of the box I realised why it was there...I was nervous of doing Blackwork so I'd started the half cross stitch background on Pastel colours in 1 strand!

I'd also changed the fabric from Aida to cream evenweave to give it a lighter feel.

Oh Boy!! The old eyesight just wasn't up to those single strand half crosses!

This is the first picture, still with the background part completed and some of the blackwork.


The blackwork was much easier than I thought!

Then I looked again at those half crosses and did a few more!
WHY??? I still didn't like them So I the whole lot!!

Now I'm at this stage and much happier with the whole result.

This design is so pretty! I love blackwork and I'm glad you're finding it easier than you thought it would be. It's quite intimidating... I know I was intimidated at first, too. But it's really quite simple.

Thank you! I'm really enjoying this now! I did a bit of Blackwork some years back and hated it!! It was in my early days of doing cross stitch and I felt it was just a load of backstitch!

Now I've started this piece again AND for the first time I'm using a hoop I'm loving it!

I'll get a bit more done then take another picture.

Well, it sort of is a load of backstitch, but it's quite different from backstitch at the same time. I'm glad you're enjoying it now. I'm itching to start another blackwork piece. I think I am going to have to have one on the go at all times.

I'm onto the next stage now....there are 2 layers of stitching....I'll photo it soon once I've got a flower or two done.

I love the cross stitch with the Blackwork border...he looks just like the hare we get in out field.
