1/4 stitch 3/4 stitch

Post by MnLtWspr »

It is probably a little late to be asking this, seein as how i am already halfway through my project but how do I tell, by looking at the chart, which one I should be doing and where? I know how to do them both but the chart or instructions don't really make it clear about the difference. They all look like the 1/4 stitch so I have just been doing that and I figure all the others will be finished with the BS if they were meant to be 3/4 stitches. Is it alright for me to be doing this?

That's pretty much how I usually end up doing it. Occasionally I'll opt for the 3/4 stitching but I usually end up doing 1/4 stitches and let the backstitching cover the 'missing' leg

I tend to judge by the design. Where the fractional is on the edge of the design, I'll often just do a 1/4 stitch and let the backstitching take care of the rest. Where the fractional is in the middle, for example on the edge between colours in the design, I'll often do two 3/4 stitches unless it's clear that one colour is supposed to be dominant and in the foreground. Otherwise I feel that it looks rather bare.

I look at the backstitching line cutting across the squares. If it cuts the square into a perfect 45 degree angle: 1/4 stitch. If the line goes across two squares before it meets the corner, 3/4 stitch.
