Is there a way to mark posts as read other than opening them? Every time I log in, if I accidently log out or log in on a different device, every thread that I've commented on since I opened an account are all classed as unread.

You can mark all as read. Either the whole site or the whole section you're in. So if you read all the ones you haven't read and get to where you have read up to, then just scroll up and click mark all as read.

Only solution I can offer.
