I've never gridded for cross stitch projects and I have done them in all sizes (I think).
However, when doing Mabel's SAL for January, I couldn't get the counting right and, in the end did a sort of gridding by stitching the central and the diagonal lines with 1 strand of stranded cotton and it helped enormously.
Does gridding really pay off in the end?

I swore I'd never grid, but recently I had to
, and I cut a hole in the fabric doing so. It's a big project that requires a big piece of fabric. Since the hole is large and in the center, I'll have to forget about this project until I get a new piece of fabric that large. (At least I can still use most of the fabric for smaller pieces.) ANYWAY, I shall grid from now on. I like the suggestions of just doing a page at a time, though.
