I started this Ed Beard Jr chart in April 2012. I gave up after 125 stitches because that 125 stitches had 14 colours of dark brown and it was HARD. Mind if I Hang Out by works4me19, on Flickr
Seeing all the wonderful HAEDs here, I picked it up again last Sunday. I had a brainstorm - instead of working my way down and into nothing but tree trunk, I would move to the right.
There are now 1200 stitches done, there is colour, and I am pleased that there are tree branches that have developed. Only 153,150 stitches to go. Mind If I Hang Out Mar 15 2013 by works4me19, on Flickr

What a great chart this is. I am so glad that you decided to try it again and enjoy stitching it, so that we will get to watch your progress. I love the colors in it and you have made a beautiful start!

Thank you all. If I manage a page per month it will take 36 months. But I have other crafts to work on as well so, we'll see how it goes.
From what I can tell, page 2 will give me a flying bat so that is pretty good incentive in itself.
I have all the floss pulled for the next 300 stitches. The first block of 100 stitches has 22 different colours. Wow. For me, that is a LOT.

When I started my "santa napping" from HAED I was frustrated by how long it was going to take me to finish, too. But I had to get over that if I wanted to have the project on my wall eventually.
So. I put it away. Worked on other pieces. Set up a rotation. And now I'm ready to get back to it. And like you, I had rows and rows of dark colors that discouraged me. I'm glad we've changed our minds about our projects!
I look forward to your progress pics. Good work, so far!!!

I know exactly what y'all mean by (almost) being overwhelmed by a project.
This one isn't even a HAED but I started my White Wedding sampler in PLENTY of time to get it done by our Dec. '12 20th anniversary but too many things came in & distracted me....lately I've been looking at it sitting in the corner, all lonely like & my DD reminded me that the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.
Since I'm not really into eating elephants I've decided to translate that into the only way to finish a BAP is one stitch at a time.

Yes, a bit at a time. I bought 4 HAEDs in April 2012 and didn't have a clue what I was getting myself into. I now have 1500 stitches done and my goal for today is to finish the top 3 rows of page 1. That's another 450 stitches.
I am recovering from bronchitis so need quiet time. My silly dragon friend is perfect for that so progress has been good.
I hope to put up another progress photo tomorrow AM.
backafter... I agree with your daughter, one stitch at a time. Looking forward to seeing progress photos of your 21st anniversary project.

Well, finished three blocks all the way across page one. That's 1,950 stitches so only 152,400 to go. I am happy that I can now actually see tree leaves.
I'm working on 22 count which is tiny for me. Even with a lit magnifying glass I am finding it a challenge but I am pleased with how it is going, especially since I had given up this time last year.

Lovely progress. It is amazing how much detail there already is. I am looking forward to your next update and am very glad that you have chosen this one to work on again. It is a great chart.
