Before last year, when I got more serious about cross stitching and found this forum, I was storing my DMC thread on bobbins on rings, in a little box (a cardboard box that closed but wasn't air tight). When I was finishing TW's The Castle, I noticed that the threads seemed pretty dusty. Like when I unwound a new strand, lots of dust-like particles would fly off in the air. I thought this was just because those threads were 10 years old, and dust had gotten in between the fibers.
I have since at least quadrupled my DMC collection (!! ), and now store them on bobbins in plastic floss boxes, which I keep closed when not working. I'm already noticing dust-like things flying away when I unwind my bobbins again. It doesn't seem to affect the color or leave residue on my fabric, but I definitely run each strand through my fingers before using it.
Is this just me? Am I a dusty person?

Hmmm, I don't think I've ever had that happen. I do use mostly plastic bobbins stored in plastic floss boxes so maybe it's the cardboard particles--that is if you are using cardboard bobbins??

It's really not a lot of dust, and it's definitely not dirty. It's more like a couple of tiny little fluffies. (technical term )
It just bothers my OCD tendencies, and I'm having visions of Pig-Pen...

Happens to us all but most never notice
Yeah, it definitely seems like it's just loose fibres coming off. (with cotton, too, right?) That makes me feel better - just a little more OCD than I used to be.

My boyfriend would really think I'd gone off the deep-end if he saw that!
