Calling all of the British!

Post by LastingAllure »

I was just wondering if you could tell me what are some of the more popular flavours of tea over in Britain...I've got English Tea so far but was wondering what were some others :)

P.S. this is for a top secret project hehe. 8)

Ooooh Tea.I love my cuppa's :D :tea:my favourites .. English Breakfast is top of my list, but I personally like Assam,Ceylon, Earl Grey,Lapsang Souchong,Lady Grey,Green Teas, and a variety of fruit and herbal teas ;Raspberry with Dragon Fruit,Lemon and Ginger and Camomile being just three in a long list. There are a lot of popular teas here in the UK. Oh thank you so much for the replies so far! This is really helpful for my top secret project hehe!

Another question...for your favourite teas, is there imagery that is normally with those flavours (for example a flower?)

And one more question...what kind of foods would pair well with said teas? Think pretty things (like tea party things, brunch stuff, afternoon snacks)

What other funny things do you say like cuppa? I think it's so cute  I want to move or at least visit the UK one day! Your accent always makes me happy...I watch British shows just to hear the accents lol.

Here in my part of the UK a lot of people ask if you want a brew, when offering a cup of tea or coffee.
I love my English Breakfast tea in the morning. It goes well with a cooked breakfast..bacon,sausage and egg..don't have too many of those though these days. Assam is another morning tea for me with a smokey flavour.
For me Lady Grey,a tea with a hint of lemons and oranges is an afternoon tea perhaps with a slice of cake, very refreshing or Earl Grey,a delicate flavour.
Can you tell I love my tea

I am not British but I love your question!
I am one of the few Italians that actually don't like coffee. I usually drink tea or herb teas during the day. Will probably find some new stuff to try here :D

I'm more a coffee drinker than tea, but sometimes nothing works better than a lovely cup of Yorkshire tea!

I love Earl Grey and Assam, Derjeeling etc but not enough to buy big boxes of them so I tend to have them out in cafes.

My favourite tea is one with cinammen and apple, it's yummy. I like herbals, mainly fennel, and my friend has a box of green tea with stawberry just for me!!

And the architypal Cream Tea, which is tea with cakes!! I thought for ages it meant tea with cream in it....

I agree with Niki, Yorkshire tea is hard to beat for a basic cuppa! :)

Right now, I can't help thinking about scones with jam for some reason, and I feel myself suddenly being drawn towards the kettle!

I'm in Tn. and we have Cracker Barrel Restaurants and they serve the English teas. I drink all the English teas, like mine hot 24/7 all year round. when we go for their breakfasts or suppers.

I remember as a child getting hot tea in wintertime because I didn't drink coffee then.

I love coffee now, but with my Diabetes I can't have my preferred creamer (I LOVE hazelnut flavored creamer--I think it makes coffee taste just like it smells!) but that stuff is HEAVY on the carbs and HIGH in sugar--so it's a definite no-no...I think I might switch over to tea this winter (I use stevia for sweetner). So this is an EXCELLANT thread-I can hear what all y'all think of & like about different tea :)

edit to add: Oh, please excuse this southern gal jumping into y'alls thread. ;)

Lol it's ok! I guess tea is very universal I just called on the British because they are known to like their teas :)

I don't know if you get this company in the states but there is a company here in Canada called steeped tea and it's all loose leaf stuff and I love it all! Many different flavours (what my nan would call untraditional she likes to stick to her orange pekoe) I guess you could say I'm looking for more traditional flavours for my project!

I am a fan of Yorkshire Gold, Lady Jane Grey, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, mint, and chamomile. In the fall there is a tea shop I go to that has a heavy cinnamon, clove, spicy tea.. perfect for cool weather.
Sometimes with orange or lemon, sometimes with honey, milk, cream. Whatever I have.
My mother wants me to bring tea and scones for Mothers day. Each year I look for something new. I might try petit fores this year.

early grey with cream was always my favorite--until i had to give up caffeine because of my ulcerative colitis. i always think of scones with clotted cream---rolling english hills, the smell of green, and wales---where i had the best scones, cream, and tea ever!

I like my regular Orange Pekoe tea during the day and Chamomile in the evening.
I love green tea with peppermint. Unfortunately, it doesn't love me too much and I've had to stop drinking it.

All this puts me in mind of the times I have gone back to the UK to visit.
In Essex, my Dad took me to have an old fashioned English tea with scones, jam and Devon clotted cream. Talk about a calorie fest. The only problem was my tummy didn't feel so good afterwards!
My SIL in Scotland makes a lot of what she calls "Tray Bakes." (They are called "Squares" here) She also makes a really good Victoria sponge. All with a cuppa!
Like Amanda, I also like chocolate digestive biscuits with my tea. Yum!

Oh dear. I'm putting on weight just thinking about it!

Oh yes, it's important to pair your tea with :cake: as often as your waistline allows

For me English Breakfast and Earl Grey are my everyday teas. When I have time to make a proper cup with loose leaf tea then it's usually a blue flower version of earl grey, rose congu or a white tea. I love my tea
This is the year that I finally deal with all my UFOs......
