knotty rope border

Post by MaggieM1750 »

Hi all
I am working on this vintage swimsuit design by Cricket Collection

Image

I screwed up and started stitching on my fabric sideways. And I don't have room to stitch as one long line. So I am going to stitch it as 2 rows of 3 swimsuits. With my cousins name in the middle to separate.. bit I think a name block needs an edging of some sort. Or maybe the whole piece needs an edging.
So, for the last 2 days I've been looking for a knotty rope border. Cannot find one! I know I've seen charts with a rope border.. or a sampler that uses it as a line separator. But using knot, or rope as a search term has come up empty so far. (except for a lot of knitting patterns) And.. I don't even really "see" borders usually- I pay more attention to the main stitching and the edging sort of disappears.

I've searched for western/ cowboy and nautical samplers and charts. Does anyone have a pattern they are working on with a rope border to point me in that direction? Or a book I can look for? Thanks everyone.

huh.. would have never thought just 2 lines, shading and backstitching.
Well, that seems easy enough. I was making it much more difficult in my head.

I tried to contact the designer.. if she had used a knotted rope in another design- but she hadn't. That would have been too easy.

Thanks for searching.

use fine rope and couch ... or twist some strands of cotton (if you separate 6 strands, tie at one end, divide by 2 and twist tight each bundle of 3 in different directions and then let them twist together they make a great little rope),
Myst..
