Update...
I have started stitching the piece and it is turning out ok. It is darker than the original painting but what is seen as pure black in some areas actually has 814 and 3371 in there which give the black a warmer look and the leaves some definition.
I am worried about the faces, however I might be able to fix with some back stitching (we will see when I get there).
All in all I think the darker version will grow on me considering the fairy tale is a very dark fairy tale when you break it down and analyze it (references to hell, 7 deadly sins, realm between the living and the dead only to mention a few). Actually it is comparable to a lot of stories about the devil (I research fairy tales sometimes).
So on a happier note it does have a glow to it from the 1/4 of the first page I have done. Will post a thread when I feel like there is enough to show. Just thought I would chime in with my thoughts.

Re: disappointed with HAED chart
I'm glad to hear that you're making friends with the colors, somewhat. I'd be furious if I paid for the chart and got that. This is what the picture is supposed to look like:

There is nothing dark about that. I looked on the Artecy and Scarlet Quince sites and didn't see that picture charted. If either of them charted it, I know it would look a whole lot better than the HaED chart. I only shop for charts on sites that show finished models -- not the original artwork. I've been burned, too, when the finished piece didn't look like the 'model' on the site where I bought the chart because the site showed the original artwork and not the finished stitchwork. I won't do that again.

I'm glad you're feeling a little happier with it now, and hope the darker version will turn out to be an enjoyable stitch, and a beautiful (if different from the original) picture

Okay, so someone else has a pile like that. I felt kind of guilty thinking I have kits and charts I will never do (they all seemed like a good idea at the time)...now I am okay with it. I'll have to go through it one of these days and put some up for grabs.cairee wrote:glad you are happy with it. Ive put mine in the pile of not-actually-ever-going-to-stitch.

Well, you have to come to understand that your 'stash' is a separate entity from your 'collection.' Charts and kits you own that you aren't going to do are part of your collection.
