Hi! I'm new here but an experienced X-stitcher.
I want to join a blue piece of 14-count Aida to a beige piece of 14-count Aida (to simulate sand and sky). I'm looking for a simple method (If such exists!) to accomplish this. Not too handy with a sewing machine so hand-sewing is probably best for me.
I've seen a couple of ideas on line, but am hoping someone here knows of a really great method for doing this they can pass along.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Jann

Welcome from the West of Scotland!
I think the simplest way to attach your two pieces of 14ct Aida together would be to use a simple ladder stitch (I've done this in the past). It's usually used to close up a gap -- say when you've finished stuffing a pillow -- but it's good for other things, too. And it will lie almost completely flat, too. Plus, of course, you'll be able to stitch over the seam.
Lot's of illustrations and tutorials on ladder stitch on the web. Here's a good one.http://imaginemakebelieve.com/How%20to% ... Stitch.pdf" target="_blank

I do not have a good suggestion about attaching two separate fabrics together, but I think if I was going to try what you are suggesting I would do this to get the 2 colors together.

Re: How do I attach...
Heres a newsletter fro Scarlet Quince which talks about joining up fabric
http://www.scarletquince.com/newsletter.php?date=08_13" target="_blank
Or, theres the option of dyed fabric
I have seen one.. cannot find where it is right now.. but I have seen one that is tan on the bottom and blue on top.
I flipped quickly through Picture This Plus and Polstitches sites- didn't see it there. I know it exists somewhere
Found it.. I knew I could figure it out.
Its the fabric for Lavender and Lace- Emmas Garden.
Is a special dye from Stitches and Spice (and maybe some other fabric dyers can/ will do it for you) http://www.tiag.com/designs/LL-49.html" target="_blank

I hope I'm doing this right...not sure how to reply to your most helpful answers.
I had considered painting or dying, and just don't think that would work. But thank you so much for the suggestions.
I think a combination of using Pelon, as one poster suggested, and ladder stitching, as someone else posted, will do the trick. Luckily, I've got several pieces of scrap to experiment on.
Many thanks,

Re: How do I attach...
I ran across the fabric painting tutorial the other night. I think I might experiment with it.
I think the fabric joining sounds good for your project!
