Mouselady's Twilight Bridge - Update 10/13/14

Post by mouselady »

This is my first project ever, and I really hesitated starting a SAP, but I have learned so much from all of you, that I want you all to see how much you have helped me.

This is what the project is supposed to look like...
Image

I was hesitating because I posted about a month ago asking for advice. I was hating doing the half cross stitches and I didn't like the way it looked. The consensus, however, was to keep doing the half crosses and just use fewer threads. I understood everyone's reasons, and decided to stick it out. After a few more days though, I was still terribly unhappy, and just about to put it aside and give up.

But I kept reading all the treads and one theme keeps coming up, there is no right or wrong, and in the end I have to be happy stitching and happy with the way the piece looks. So, since I was not happy doing it the 'right' way, I decided to stop the half crosses and continue the 'wrong' way. I feel so much better about how it looks, and I love doing it now. So I think this is the right way for me.

So this is what it looks like after 10 weeks...
Image

You can see I am learning to park, which is definitely making the stitching much easier. I also learned the loop method for starting single colors and I start in the front for the blended colors.

So, basically, I wanted to start this SAL so you could see how much you have all been helping me. I am no where near as skilled as the rest of you, but I think in time I might get close.

Thanks for looking.

Looking great!! :applesauce: And best of all, you've learned this most important rule about cross stitching.... have fun!! If you aren't having fun, then it's time to put it down. Find what makes you happy and do it with your whole heart. You won't be disappointed!

This is a beautiful start...and I think you are very skilled, you just might not be aware of it yet. I'm so glad you stuck with this one because it's so pretty and peaceful (I want to be there!). I'm looking forward to more updates.

No such thing as a silly question....

You are doing a fab job! I can understand why you found the dimensions oddness with half stitches etc so frustrating but I think the design will look brilliant without them. Having fun is what it's all about!!

I'm so glad you stuck it out and found a way that made the stitching enjoyable and pretty to you. The forum helped me that way, too. I was starting an HAED with over 150,000 stitches and was giving up after 125 stitches, with over 20 colours of brown. I found a different way to stitch and am in love with my project now.

The window fairly glows. It's looking great and I would not know this was your first project.

Keep up the great work and make sure you give us regular updates.
