Salutations

Post by StitcheryDickoryDock »

Hello everyone! My name is Dianne. I hail from the unseasonably brisk, overcast land known as Nebraska. I've been lurking around for nearly a month, and finally decided it was time to step out of the shadows and into the sunshiny warmth the members of this forum offer in spades.

A bit about myself: My Grandma taught me counted cross stitch when I was eight, and I have many fond memories of sitting at her feet and cross stitching while she sang. After I graduated high school, life became one hectic balancing act between college, work and starting a family.Cross stitching, along with my other creative outlets, got pushed aside. A few years ago, I found myself anxious and restless and was drawn to cross stitching's siren song once more. I've been stitching daily since.

I prefer stitching large, intricate pieces that I make myself. Right now I'm on a kick of stitching photographs I've converted into patterns. There's something utterly satisfying about the realism born from a needle, thread, and a bunch of tiny x's.

I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of you. :D Happy Stitching!

 Hi Dianne and welcome to the forum from the very unseasonably cold (with a freeze warning for tonight) lowcountry of South Carolina! Glad you came in from the shadows to the warmth of the forum. We have several members who are stitching from personal photographs. They are completely beautiful. (That is what first drew me to the forum. Wanting to do that and looking to find a good program that would work with a Mac. got the program and have not stitched one photo as I became hooked on other things. .) I hope that you will post pictures of your projects. We love pictures.Looking forward to getting to know you!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Carole.

I will be more than happy to post pictures, though I think I tend to stitch a bit differently than most. I chase one color at a time (per page) because I love watching each layer of color add to the last and start to outline the image within. Sometimes it makes it a bit difficult for people to tell what I'm stitching until I'm nearing completion, but I love hearing someone say..."Oh NOW I see the face." lol

Welcome to the forum, Dianne, and hello from Colorado. I'm glad you came out of the shadows and joined us.

I'm looking forward to seeing your WIP's. I have a few photos I'm working on converting to cross stitch, and we have a forum member (Skitzzz - not sure I have the right number of z's in there) who does beautiful conversions.

And welcome from an unusually sunny and dry West of Scotland! There is great joy in Mudville when a lurker de-lurks.

I know what you mean about chasing a single colour. The design I'm working on at the moment is made up of lots of smaller bits, and it's fun to do all of one colour before starting another and seeing the patterns develop.
