I think I mentioned in one of my other SAL threads that I've been having a major case of startitis... well, I finally gave in and started Dimension's Tree Frog Trio. If I can get it done in time for Christmas, it will be a present for a friend.
Normally I don't grid for such a small project, but I've had a flurry of visits from the lately, so I am giving it a try since I can't seem to count much lately!

Looking forward to watching this interesting one grow. I wonder if there is a miscounting bug around lately - I found myself miscounting a couple of times over the weekend. Hope stays away for you now.

Definitely time for a frog fry!!! If I hadn't gridded the piece I'm stitching right now (HAED Shiver Meow Timbers) it would be in the trash because I wouldn't be able to figure out where I am and where I need to be. And this is in a section without an overwhelming amount of confetti! Gridding for a smaller piece is starting to make more sense to me too.
Looking forward to watching this one develop. I hope you will give us lots of updates!

This is just regular sewing thread. I just choose a bright color that doesn't match the colors in the piece I'm working on. I don't secure the ends so it's easy to just pull out at the end. I've never done it in a grid before, but that's the way it works when I do the center lines in my previous pieces so theoretically it should work again.
Nothing wrong with gridding smaller projects! I do it all the time - on the plus side it doesnt take a whole day to grid like it does for a HAED! I've found that at the very least I like to grid the outline of the piece, the center lines and any page breaks. I use sewing thread too and just pull it out as I get close to it, letting the rest of the grid serve as my guide.
Looking forward to watching your progress on this one!
It has been many years since I've stitched and seeing a basting grid is new for me - but what a great idea! I just started a new project on 28ct and the instructions read to stitch the border first and if it meets then you're good. I appreciate the heads up but that has me counting over and over and over. Grid lines would have been the best idea. Thanks!

Susan- gridding is a must for me, as my counting is not always correct. I usually use a water soluble pen which is far quicker.
Yes, the pen is a much faster option for gridding. I haven't been brave enough to try it yet, since I'm scared it won't wash out if I leave it too long!
