Hi guys, just thought I'd introduce myself since I'm new here.
I'm Katie, or Victoria, whichever you'd like to call me, I've been cross-stitching since I was about 9 years old (I picked it up off my sister when I was that age since she used to cross stitch all the time) and so have been doing it for about 12 years now. However, I have only used aida so over the next few weeks I'm going to broaden my options and use Evenweave for one of my Tilton Crafts designs which I'm super excited about using.
Just as a side question, would I be ok to use a hoop for evenweave? or will it pull the fabric out of shape? Also what size needle should I use for a 25 count evenweave?
But yeah thanks for reading my post guys, and I hope to get to know some of you
Welcome, Katie/Victoria. I use evenweave and linen all the time and have only ever used a hoop. I wrap the hoop in bias binding or ribbon (nothing slippery) which holds the fabric firmly and helps to prevent hoop marks.
It's very nice to meet you
& ahh that sounds like a great idea, I'll have to try something like that since I have a wooden hoop and it tends to mark up my aida. Since my evenweave is going to be for more advanced projects, i'd prefer that they looked in almost perfect condition.
Like most, I started on Aida and moved to Lugana and Jobelan, which became my favoirtes. I've been working on linen a lot lately, too, but Lugana remains my fave followed by Jobelan. As for needle size, I use a 26 or 28 for just about everything.
I hope you'll share pictures of your WIP's.

Hi there It's great to hear from you too!
I'd hope to one day move on to linen, but as I'm just starting out on evenweave i'm a bit nervous about linen.
I shall defo post some wips at some point I'm unsure as to how to do that at this point but I will work it out eventually.
Thankyou for the needle comment, I currently am using a size 26 needle and it seems to work just fine. I bought a different brand about 2 days ago and I much prefer them, they are a lot sturdier than what I've previously been using from dmc and they don't seem to taint from the oils on my skin either which is a massive bonus.
Hello and welcome from South Carolina! Like most others I began with Aida but moved on to 18ct evenweave afghan cloth, where I stayed for years. Now my favorite fabrics are lugana and then jobelan, usually 28ct using a size 28 needle. There are lots of different linens out there, but I find that 32 ct Belfast Linen is easiest for me. I use a hoop or Q-snaps and have never had trouble with it leaving marks and I'm afraid that I am one of those who doesn't remove hoops or Q-snaps when I am done for the day

And welcome from the West of Scotland! Glad you found us among the intertubes. Looks like others have answered your questions, so I'll just let you know that we are famous in these parts for our pub, the Stash & Grab, serving quite possibly the best hot chocolate this side of Cocoa Mountain, not to mention other even more virtual libations.
Thankyou for all the helpful hints and tips you've all given me so far. I think I'm going to enjoy being part of this friendly community :p
I will of course post some wips as I take the photos
