Hello:) & help !

Post by Easilydistracted »

Hello,

I have been lurking on this forum for awhile but haven't been brave enough to post till now. I've recently started stitching again after a long time and this project is the biggest I have ever done. I used the grid ding pen which I have used on a smaller design and which washed out beautifully on that piece. However on this piece, the lines faded over time but when I washed it, they suddenly reappeared in a different colour.

This is the piece I'm doing:

and this is the pen damage:

That is very strange - what brand of pen is it? did you use any detergent when you washed the piece?

here is a link to a thread about posting pictures in a thread http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... f=4&t=1027" target="_blank - try following those steps to show us a picture.

Have you tried washing the piece again since the colour of the pen changed?

I've only ever used pencil to grid my fabrics but I know others here have used pens and I think they might be of more help than me

Did you just use cold water? These pens can reappear, especially if the ink has been left for a long time. (Not very helpful, sorry.)

As for putting in a picture, see here: http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... f=3&t=1027" target="_blank

I think it's important to wash the pen off in cold water, I think hot water can set it in somehow. You might find some vanish or suchlike helps?

Hopefully you can get some pictures up and we can all get to the bottom of this.

Welcome, now you can see we don't bite I hope you do less lurking and more posting :) :) :)

 That'll be it. If your stitching includes the background... you might get away with it.

BTW, I re-edited your post to show the photos. In photobucket, if you take the IMG code (just click on it) and paste it into your post, it should come up.

The pattern doesnt actually:( but I could just sew the blue back ground instead of leaving it blank - a real pain but it doesn't look that I have a choice. I'm quite worried - I used it on two other pieces and they seem fine - should I worry about the lines reappearing do you think?

Well, if you've already drawn them in, all I can suggest is... Get Stitching! Oh, and use cold water next time!

And I was so pleased with the pen. I suspect it was also the length of time I left it on the fabric.

So how would you all feel about updates on the piece? Too much?

No not too much at all! You can make a thread in the Stitch along board and well all admire....

I think you should be ok using the pen, just don't use hot water again!

Updates are a good thing: set up a dedicated thread in the SAL category.

Hi and Welcome from me and I am so glad you delurked and posted.

I often use a soluble pen and always wash in lukewarm water with a dash of dish washing liquid in it, to get rid of any grease/oil/sweat from me hands. The marks have always washed out.

I would try gently immersing your work in likewarm water with a dash of whatever brand of stain removal you use when you are washing clothes which need a bit of extra cleaning. If it doesn't work them maybe stitch some clouds or something over the most marked areas? :D
