Large projects
Hi everyone, I'm new to the site but not new to cross stitch, done a few lovely medium sized pieces, but I really want to do a jaw dropping extra large one approx 3ft by 4 ft roughly, for hall way of new house. I was thinking an African theme to match the colour and our past holidays there, I have looked for kits on various sites and eBay, nothing is taking my fancy. Does anybody know of anywhere I can look out for this type of project? Much appreciated Vickie x

This:

done on 18-ct would be about the size you're looking for.

This:

on 18 ct would be about 32 inches square.
http://www.goldenkite.com/index.php/827.html" target="_blank
They aren't kits, but you can always kit it up yourself with fabric you like to work on. You can order kits from Golden Kite if you only want it in a kit.
Alternatively, you can find an image you like, find the name of the artist and then search the Artist lists in Golden Kite or Scarlet Quince (scarletquince.com) or one of the other many art-to-stitch sites and see if they have charts of that artist's work. You can also chart your own. Find an image you like (if you want it 4-feet wide, get an image at least 900 pixels wide), contact the artist if it isn't a Public Domain image to ask for permission to create a chart to stitch it and then chart it yourself or hire someone to chart it for you. Golden Kite takes commssions and some of the other art-to-stitch sites do, too.

Speaking of HAED, how about this one:
http://heavenandearthdesigns.com/index. ... s_id=13558
It is the supersized version

Welcome to the forum, and good luck finding just the right project! (At that size it would have to be just right, wouldn't it
?)

Re: Large projects
Ohh.
That HAED looks a bit like a clipart collage to me. Not something I'd go for.
Now, I am a great admirer of David Shepherd as an artist, and we have rather more of his prints than I want to admit to, however he has painted a good many African wildlife paintings as well as a number of other subjects. To get a flavour of what he does take a look here: http://www.cornwater.com/david-shepherd-gallery. Having found the painting you like, search for a bigger image on the net using the picture title. That image could be charted using a number of free/paid for charting programs. However, do get permission from the copyright owner, and in the case of David Shepherd, probably from http://www.davidshepherd.co.uk.
Now, I do not know your location, but if you are in the UK, you might like to read my last post at the bottom of the page in this topic concerning copyright legislation: http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... 40#p618340.
Regards,
Richard.
