Parking: You don't finish off the thread when you're done with the color for a part, you "park" it and then keep going when the color comes up again until you run out of that piece of thread.

Cross Country: You pick one color and work on it for an entire page, design, or area of a design.

Neither of these pictures are my own work.

Ohhhhhh, tyvm! Apparently I'm a cross country stitcher....although I do not do the entire piece. Depending upon size and complexity, I either work center out of left to right. I guess I'm a mixer. Ty again for your time in ecplaining, the pics were an amazing vidhal. I am mostly self taught, so names of techniques are not known to me. Have a blessed day. :D

This is actually a really helpful post, I didn't know that my technique is called cross country but I guess it all comes down to preference! :)

It turns out I'm a cross country stitcher as well and didn't know that's what it was called. Unlike the rest of the known world, I like labels and don't mind having another one. :D

I always thought cross country meant instead of starting a new piece of thread elsewhere you just ran it under stitches on the back for long sections.

I used to say that I was "cross county" because I tend for the most part to stay in relatively smaller areas. but I guess cross country would apply also. I used to think that meant that a stitcher stitched all of one color and then went to the next color, but I like to do sections so I can see bits and pieces come together. Hope that makes sense. Tried parking but once I got past 3 threads I was in trouble
