The problem was domain name expiry, and it takes some databases round the world a bit of time to update. It could be the servers sending data her way have a database that needs updating.
That is exactly what I suspect the problem is as well.

When you type crossstitchforum.com into your browser that's like dropping a letter into the post with just a name on it and no address. Since the name is unique various "DNS" databases around the world are used to find the actual address of the computer serving up that website. Yesterday it was a computer with an advertisement, now it is getting switched back to the forum's computer little by little.

Reminds me of 1999 when Microsoft forgot to renew a bunch of domains and some sharp fella figured it out and paid the $35 renewal so that his Hotmail would start working again.

Well! What a relief! I was away all weekend, no computer (bliss) and so unaware of the trauma. I hope everyone who wants to be here is here. Drinks are on me in the Stash & Grab!

I'm in the cross stitch group on Ravelry and someone from Europe is still having problems getting back on this forum. I passed along the F5 suggestion (just now), but there are still issues with people wanting to get back on.

Hello Delta and welcome to our forum and thank you for passing along that information to forum members who are part of your group and still having issues getting on to our forum. I am hoping that it is just a matter of time (a short time hopefully) before all the data bases or servers or whatever cyber space requires get the word that we are back. Your help is most appreciated.

Yep I got a page saying it was free & to register my domain name etc. Did not understand it & thought it was the weather as this has been gong haywire for several days. Extremely windy out now, whistling & singing through the telephone wires in our road. DH took me to the library as too dangerous to go out in this. Rain eased up now but there is more to come so my Met Office email alerts have warned me.

Glad this is back now & hello to those who have recently joined just in case I have not welcomed you :D

Edit: Grocery delivery man had to use his emergency exit lever as wind blew van door shut with him inside. It is quite a large van too with a heavy door. He said they have to check this emergency lever before they go out at the start of each day.
