Re: Advice needed
I usually use 2 strands on 18 ct--maybe you could try a small project on a scrap of the 18 ct and see if you prefer the looks of using 1 strand or 2 strands---you may just use a few rows of each on the fabric to test how you like the coverage

I've stitched two strands on 18 count, but I really do prefer one. It's all a matter of what you like and feel comfortable with. Some designs also lend themselves better to one vs two.

Re: Advice needed
I like 2 on 18-count so I get full coverage. One thread full cross on 18-ct doesn't give me the coverage I like. Try it on a swatch in the margin of your fabric and see which you like better.

Re: Advice needed
2 threads on 14ct is a bit sparse, which would indicate to me a single thread would only be suitable for 28ct or above.

Re: Advice needed
I use 2 strands on 18 ct afghan fabric, which might be a bit looser weave than on aida, and the coverage is good. Depending on how tight your stitching is will probably make the difference in coverage between 1 and 2 strands. As the others have said, it is definitely important to test this before finding that you don't like what you have chosen. If you don't have extra fabric, I would use the margins as Allyn suggested.

Oh! If the new project uses blended threads, you have no choice but to use two strands.
