You're definitely right about the real butterflies, Wendy - I think I got too much hung up on looking like the kit picture rather than like nature :-)

It's likely to be my one and only stumpwork finish :-) but I'm definitely pleased with him.

Because stumpwork isn't really my "cup of tea" :-) . I enjoyed doing this one, but generally I'm happy to admire other people's stumpwork!

I do like textural stitches, like woven picots and raised chain stitch and the detached buttonhole wings on my butterfly wreath, but I''ve never really taken to the whole wire-and-big-wooden-beads type of project. Although as I said, I really enjoy seeing it done by other people.

Having firmly decided to pack away all my WIPs except for the SAL and the RSN Certificate, I have succumbed to temptation and put together a little travel project   .

Here's one I made earlier :-) - it's from an out of print book Mary wrote about some years ago, and I stitched it in 2015 using stranded silks (Gumnuts, Gloriana and Dinky Dyes). The second one is my present project, using DMC coton a broder for ease. (I've since put it in a smaller hoop to make it even more portable; it'll have to live in my handbag.)

Elegant simplicity and what a great idea to fit it into your purse and have it handy for when there is the waiting time, or just a gap in the day.

It’s such a pretty design, and it’s always good to have a little portable project.

Lynette, if you ever want to have a go, the butterfly was a kit from Sarah Homfray - it's got all the threads, wires, and the thick interfacing for the body with the design drawn on.

Yes, you can stitch while manning (er, womanning) a vintage car part stand at the Beaulieu International Autojumble :-)

Image

I managed nearly all the green while we were there, then finished it at my stitching group (back for the first time after the summer break) and mounted it in a card:

I also gave in to temptation and bought this after having seen some of their kits done by someone on the Mary Corbet FB group - it's not a full kit, just the printed fabric with the instructions. This image is from the Oh Sew Bootiful website, I haven't actually got it yet!
