Back from London

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Well, I've survived another Knitting & Stitching Show :-) - lovely feedback on the workshops (including from the organiser - wow!), and of course I had a good look around the show myself.

Some really interesting exhibitions/showcases, but stash-wise a lot of wool and quilting/clothing fabric and not that much embroidery. I'd promised a friend I'd look for two kits for her which she had intended to buy from Sew & So, and then found she couldn't anymore, but the only three general cross stitch stands unfortunately didn't have them or even know about them :-(

I was very abstemious in my buying (one workshop participant said, "do you go straight out into the show after the workshop and spend your earnings?" Ha, I'm lucky if I see any payment before the end of November :-) ) - saw quite a few nice things, like silks and really very pretty kits, but the kits were quite expensive (partly I think because they were beautifully presented - that sort of packaging costs a bundle!) and really I've got quite enough to do already. As for the silks, I'd forgotten to bring the list of what I already have in Au Ver a Soie and Inc Needlepoint - must make a not to be better prepared next time.

So here are some pics of the workshops (including my colourful demonstration cloth), my purchases (only the bottom one of the couching threads, the other two I already had) and, on a completely different note, the squirrel that mugged me in Holland Park :-)

Looks like your students were having a great time -- pity about the lighting, of course, but that's pretty common everywhere in these big setups. One day (one day) I intend to get to Ally Pally or to Harrogate for the big show. Our SECC effort up here in March isn't much to write home about these days, alas.

doncha want to stroke that squirrel???

I brushed it off my skirt, bag and coat several times - does that count?

Serinde - I guess it is a start maybe next year the rest will happen????

The lovely ladies were looking very busy and I am sure some fine work was shown at the end of the session. Well Done Mable for surviving another Showtime.
