Depends on the work you're siging, I'd say; something over one on 32 count would look better with a smaller, finer "signature" than something chunky on 14ct aida. Are you signing in backstitch, cross stitch, something else?

 Hello critter love lady! And welcome to the forum from South Carolina. The number of threads I use depends on the project, it’s size and the type of fabric I am using. Because I typically stitch on 28 ct eve weave or on linen, I tend to use 1 thread and a small size alphabet. When I was making a lot of cross stitch afghans that were large and stitched on 18 ct fabric, I usually signed them With 1 strand, but larger letters. If you have any fabric you can test this on, or have enough fabric on the edges, I would suggest trying a few letters to see what you like best.

Hope to hear from you again!

I use one strand. I use the colour that’s the same as the area I put my signature. But if that’s too dark I use a lighter shade.

Are you talking here about putting your name on the stitching? Sorry, if I sound odd. I just cant understand what is meant by "signature"- some wording which goes with the design or just your name. Thank you in advance for an explanation.

What I have done in the past is to use a fountain pen to sign and date an unused part of the chart, then use that as a chart to plot out how I am going to sign the work. I use a single thread of backstitch to follow the 'chart' of my signature, in the closest approximation to my favourite fountain pen ink colour (DMC 995, a turquoise colour). This has worked for me on 14 ct Aida, 32 ct linen and 28 ct evenweave. I just make sure the stitched signature is physically the same size as my normal signature, and it usually looks appropriate.

Regards,

Richard.

I use my initials and the year. It’s very small.
